CCCAA State Track and Field Finals at the College of San Mateo

The SD Mesa Track and Field Team took a business trip up to the Bay Area for the CCCAA State Track and Field Meet on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18 at the College of San Mateo.  The top 4 athletes in each event gained All American status and the top 8 athletes medalled. 

Sophomore All American Holly Stallman placed 3rd in the State in the Women's Long Jump 5.68m (18'7.75"), Freshman Tori Palacki placed 6th in the Women's High Jump 1.55m (5'1"), and Freshman Bianca Encio placed 7th in the Women's Shot Put 11.60m (38'0.75"). 

On the Men's side, Freshman State Champ and All American Stefen Rasmuson ran a tactical and gutsy race to finish strong with the 5000m title 15:08.73, Freshman All American Bobby Brana placed 4th in the 3000m Steeplechase 9:31.8 with a strong finish over the last 3 laps, Freshman All American (XC) Isaiah Labra placed 5th in the 5000m 15:25.78, Freshman Davey Folsom placed 6th in the Shot Put 14.25m (46'9"), Sophomore Aaron Mickelsen placed 8th in the Decathlon with 5544 Points and secured a medal with his strong finish and personal best in the last event 1500 5:17.  In the Men's Javelin, Freshman Andrew Mitchell placed 10th 48.10m (157'10") and Freshman Oscar Navarro placed 11th 46.96m (154'1").

"Overall the coaching staff is very happy with these performances, especially due to the weather and wet conditions.  The state meet group represents the commitment, strong work ethic, and accomplishments of not only the 2019 SD Mesa Track and Field Team, but also the legacy and tradition of the program.  We are proud of the accomplishments of our whole team this season." states Coach Ricketts.
