The San Diego Mesa College men’s swim team is off to a speedy start at the 2019 PCAC championships at Southwestern College.
The three-day event in Chula Vista, California is the final meet of the year to crown the individual and team conference champions. The meet will also determine which swimmers will turn in times to qualify for the state championships. The top 16 individuals will automatically qualify in each event.
Similar to the women’s swim team, who found early success in the meet, the men didn’t wait long to grab their first title by winning the first event relay of the meet.
Jack Fischer, Nasreddine Elakkad, Jeff Kuo, and John Dickerson turned in a 1:30.25 time in the men's 200 free relay, which will preliminary qualify them for the state championships.
“We got out of the gates well,” states head coach Nate Resch. “Having won the first relay with that time is a great way to kick off the meet. It created outstanding momentum for the entire team.”
John Dickerson continues his impressive performance having won two individual events and anchoring the 200 free relay. “He has been lights out,” adds Resch. “His individual times are the 4th fastest 50 free (20.77) and 3rd fastest 200 free (1:41.22) times in the state this year.
