Freshman John Dickerson (La Jolla HS) has been named the 2019 PCAC co-swimmer of the year for his performance at the 2019 PCAC championships.

“I am honored in being named co-swimmer of the year by the conference,” states Dickerson. “It definitely went a whole better than I thought. Once the meet started, I told myself to just swim and everything will fall into place.”

The 5’10 freshman obliterated the field having won two individual events and also anchored the men’s 200 free relay. Dickerson’s 50 free swim of 20.77 is the 4th fastest in the state. He followed that with a 1:41.22 time in the 200 freestyle which registers as 3rd fastest in the state.

“This is my first semester at Mesa College, and it has been the perfect fit,” explains Dickerson. “Coach Resch has made swimming fun for me again. He has created an atmosphere that’s fun and rewarding.

Although the 2019 swim season is almost complete, with the state champions still to be crowned, Dickerson will immediately start preparing for the upcoming water polo season. “Once state championships are over, I’ll be right back in the pool training for water polo,” adds Dickerson. “There is no offseason in competitive aquatics. Both water polo and swim are year round sports.
