Men's soccer defeats Desert, travel to MiraCosta

The San Diego men’s soccer team played their most complete game of the fall on Friday defeating College of the Desert 2-1.

The first goal breaking the tie came at the 60-minute mark when freshman Matthew Guthrie (Scripps Ranch HS) served a perfect ball to Zane Wade giving the Olympians the 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, Manuel Lopez found the back of the net with the assists from Zane Wade that gave Mesa the insurmountable 2-0 lead.

Mesa College and College of the Desert began competing against each other in 1982. The Olympians hold the overall record lead at 19-9-4. However, the past couple of years, the Roadrunners have had Mesa’s number having swept both matches last season which includes losing 3 of the last 5.

In a season that has seen its ups and downs, the squad is finally starting to play to their full potential. Goalkeeper Ty Aumann has been solid leading the PCAC in save percentage at 79.6%.

The team will travel north to Oceanside on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 to take on MiraCosta College. Kickoff is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
