Men's Basketball Seeing Improvements

The San Diego Mesa college men's basketball team continued their struggles at the Hemet Sportsman's Club Classic losing to Copper Mountain College (89-91) and Mt. San Jacinto College (74-106).

Although the team is currently 0-10, head coach Travis Nichols is seeing progress from his players. "Learning to win close games is the next step. There are games that we could have won, but mental mistakes late in the games have cost us."

The Olympians starting line-up consists of five true freshmen.

Aren Thomas (Dekaney HS) is leading the team with an 11.9 points per game average. "Aren brings grit to our team," states Nichols. "Another person that's contributing immediately is Emanwel Henry (San Diego HS), who recently scored 18 points against Copper Mountain. 'E,' as we call him is starting to find his groove and we're starting to see why he's a complete package.

The Olympians are back on the court on Thursday, December 20 as they take on Santiago Canyon at the El Camino Tournament.
