Men's Basketball Wins Conference Opener, On Two Game Win Streak

The San Diego Mesa College men's basketball team secured their first Pacific Coast Athletic Conference victory this evening by defeating Imperial Valley College 86-77. Freshman Aren Thomas (Dekaney HS) lead all Olympians with 28 points and 10 assists.

"This was a big win for us," states Thomas. "You always want to start out strong in conference play and I feel like the team is finally putting it all together on both sides of the ball."

Another reason for this winning streak is the three-point shooting. Currently, the team is ranked #1 in the conference in 3-point percentage and 3-points made per game.

"It's a great way to start league play," states head coach Travis Nichols. "We almost played a complete game, but once again, we started committing mental errors towards the latter part of the game. We can't continue to do that if we are going to be successful. "

The Olympians will look to make it three wins in a row as they host Grossmont College on Wednesday, January 23. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
