San Diego Mesa College Olympians Football

Defeats Antelope Valley

San Diego, CA. — On Saturday, Sept. 9, San Diego Mesa Olympian Football team soundly defeated Antelope Valley College 24-7.  This is the second win for the Olympians this season following their win against cross-town rivals the Grossmont Griffins, 32-7 on Sept. 2.

"Our team faced a lot of adversity on Saturday night and they fought through it to persevere with a win vs. a tough Antelope Valley team," stated Head Coach Peter Lofthouse.

Highlights of the game included when local player Cameron Breckenridge, from Scripps Ranch High School, made a big play for the Olympians early in the 4th quarter: by catching a touchdown to give the Olympians their first lead of the game at 10-7.  From that moment on, the Mesa defense turned in a tremendous performance led by Jordan Gochenour.  Jordan had seven tackles, one tackle for a loss, one pass break up, one interception, and one fumble recovery.  In addition, Jordan returned both the interception and fumble recovery for touchdowns, which helped seal the game for the Olympians.  This year the San Diego Mesa Football team has been working on "Raising Their Expectations."  For the 2017 season, the goal of the Olympians is to earn a bowl game and win their conference.
