Math teacher Gina Abbiate as Olympian football's FIRST honorary captain.
"Gina Abiatte has been teaching math at Mesa College for 13 years. She has developed a bond with the football team since last year when she tutored Algebra to the Olympians. Gina is proud to have been selected as an honorary captain. It is important to our football program that we recognize and honor faculty members who have such a positive impact on our players."
This last week, football student-athletes nominated stand out faculty and staff at San Diego Mesa College, and the Olympian men put it to a vote to decide which professors put in the extra mile for our student-athletes. Coach Lofthouse, alongside his coaching staff, will announce each honorary captain prior to each home game this season. The honorary captain will walk out with the Olympian football team, and assist the team captains in the game's coin toss.
